Tierney Sutton Band

Last night I had the extreme pleasure listening to a jazz band. Some friends invited Tom and me to hear The Tierney Sutton Band play in Yakima. It was about an hour and half ride from we live to Yakima. They picked us up and took us out to dinner and then the concert. What a treat for us.

Just a side note that has nothing to do with last night, but I have to mention. When you enter Yakima there is a large sign that reads, “Welcome to Yakima the Palms Springs of Washington.” Now the first time I saw that sign I laughed. I’ve included a picture of it below. Last night I thought wouldn’t it be really funny if Palm Springs had a sign that read, “Welcome to Palms Springs the Yakima of California.” Since I opened this can of worms, the story behind the sign was there was a man who owned the land and wanted to put up something on it to fill the space. That my friend was what he came up with.

Anyway back to last night. If you ever get the chance to see this band they were amazing. Each member was fun to watch for they play their instruments with excellence. I loved the bass. You can’t tell that well from the picture but it was a work of art in itself. Tierney Sutton has a beautiful voice. One thing that impressed me was her acknowledgement of her band mates often during the set. You can tell that they got along well.

I’m always so appreciative of spending an evening doing something that’s fun. So D & H thank you for your generosity last night, we love you.

In keeping with the music theme of this post, check out my husband’s blog here.

Nadine,

I love Jazz!! Unfortunately, not a love that my hubby shares, which is ok, because we share a lot of other loves (opera, classical music, ballroom dancing when we get a chance, football. . .)

Washington is one of my favorite places. I lived in Lakewood (which is nowhere near Yakima) for nine months last year. I could have stayed there, but the siren call of having grandparents close won out!

Have a lovely day!

Sounds like a lovely night Nadine. My daughter is a huge jazz fan. She went to New Orleans for New Years's Eve and heard a great band there.
It's just fun to get out once in a while. I'm glad you were able to do that.
Have a great sunday.

I love Jazz as well. When I lived in Vancouver (BC) there's a week long Jazz festival and it's wonderful!!! We have more polka music now where I'm living...

I spent a weekend in Yakima when I was in grade 8, I think that was back in 1986 or so. We were passing through on a school choir tour and sang and stayed in a church there. I love saying the name, it's one of those cool places you circle on the map.

Thanks for coming by my site, I've seen you around at some of the blogs I read. I think you read my sister's blog (La La's world). It's nice to meet you.

I love Jazz too. I don't make it over to New Orleans often enough, though, to catch it live.

Glad you had a great time.

Jazz is a funny thing for me because I never listen to it at home but I LOVE going to concerts. Particularly, those that are outside. Great recommendation!

Sounds like a great time. I love all kinds of music, but have never been to a jazz concert. I would love to do that sometime.

Yakima The Palm Springs of WA. Was actual an advertisement they used to entice pioneers to settle and homestead the valley, back in the day. Boy I’d been ticked! No offence Yakima, but Palm Springs you are not. I guess it was the agricultural thing. Glad you had such a lovely evening Nadine!

Sounds like a fun night!!

BUT, I must comment on the sign. THAT CRACKS ME UP, TOO! I live in Renton, WA and I've been to Yakima dozens of times in my life. I must have been completely in ozone because I've never noticed it.

I love a broad range of music, but Jazz is probably the ONLY one I don't care for, but regardless an evening out with your honey and great friends sounds wonderful. Just the car trip alone would have been nice. Ive been to Yakima, several times and I havent noticed that sign before(what does that say about me?)lol

I checked out your husband's site and the name of his blog is by far the best I have come across. I am trying to get my husband to design his own blog and maybe help with mine. Vince and I enjoy jazz but don't get out much as we have young kids. I see the light..........
