Dream Job

One of the blogs I read wrote this post entitled, “Where Do You Work?” It was very enjoyable for me to read about how she loves her job. I loved how her passion for what she did came shinning through. At the end she asked, “Where do you work?” and “Is it your dream job?” Hmm. What an interesting question I thought.

I work as a medical receptionist in a very busy doctor’s office. At times it’s a demanding and a stressful place to work. I work hard and do a good a job. My boss hates when I’m not there because he feels the office doesn’t run as well. I would love to less indispensable. I’m tired and usually feel like my brain is sucked out of my head by the end of day.

What is my dream job? I want to write. I want to create stories that not only tell a good story but are real. I want to be able to be free to do other things I feel the Lord calling me to do. It doesn't matter if I get paid to do it or not.

That being said, the lessons I’ve learned at this job were priceless. I’ve grown as a person as God has used my job as a source to mold, shape and deepen my character. I’ve learned to rely on Him and turn to Him for comfort.

I’ve tried to find work elsewhere, but nothing seems to open up to me. This tells me God’s timing is not right. So in the meantime as I wait for God’s opportunity, I try to do the best job I can. I believe this honors God. I pray and ask God to bless those I work with. I pray that He prospers the practice. Am I perfect at this? No, just ask Tom. There are days it gets to me, but I get back on that horse the next day and start anew.

There is something inside of me that rejoices when I see others that I care about have the opportunity to live their dreams. When I read Debbie’s blog, I couldn’t help but smile. I believe everyone should live their dreams. People aren’t born living their dreams. They usually have to pay their dues, so it’s great when their dreams come true. Isn’t God good that He allows us to look to the future with hope? Isn’t He good to allow us to live out our dreams? Thank You Father.

If you’re doing your dream job, please share by leaving a comment. I want to rejoice with you. If you’re not, then I want to join you in the hope that one day you will be.

Hmmm...interesting subject!
I use to want to be a teacher...but except for being a preschool teacher for a while, I didn't exactly make it all the way through college to hit that mark.
I did want to marry and have children...and though later than for some in coming, He did give me this desire of my heart!
Currently, I'm doing that...plus teaching my own children since I decided to home school! So, it fulfills that longing to teach in me...
And the other dream I share with you in that I want to write. At the moment, I only write in my blog, but I have a feeling I should take a break soon and finish that last chapter...

OK- I totally rambled here! But you asked for it! LOL

Good for you for rejoicing with others whom obtain their dreams, while at the same time looking toward your own, yet being patient for His timing!

I wouldn't call mine a dream job, though some might. What I realized some time ago is that dream jobs are usually just that - dreams. I've realized that there is much fulfillment in trying to make one's dreams conform to one's job instead of the other way around. Just my opinion....

Life is a progression. I feel it is important to enjoy each step of the way. Blossom where you're planted. I am absolutely enjoying every day of retirement!

When I keep in mind that I am doing the work the Lord has laid out for me, then I realize this is indeed my dream job.

Nadine,

What a great idea!

Dream job? I share your dream...I'd love write! In fact, after doing a boat-load of research...I've discovered....that we are in fact writers...we write after all! But you know what I mean!

I love your attitude! My dream job has been in transition the last few years. At the birth of my first child, I quit earning a paycheck and began my dream job of being a stay at home mom. She is going to be 26 this year, 2nd child--24, youngest 15. My dream job has become a little dull! I find myself in a bit of a forced retirement and I have not handled it with grace each step of the way.

When my daughter graduated from high school, I soon realized that the greatest irony of life....is simply....the kids grow up...and leave! So as my 2nd child was graduating from high school, I returned to college. I loved it! After 30 years, I finally had the opportunity to graduate from college. It was a very good thing--both for my resume and for me personally.

One of the hardest things for women to do is focus, solely, on themselves. With a good project (like a college degree)--all guilt subsides. It demands a sole focus.

Still, although my dream job is transitioning as my children grow up and out.....I am thankful for the opportunity to set aside any personal goals....to ready them for life....the best way we knew how.

I'm off to read Debbie's blog--this is a fun dialogue.

I do love my job, though it's probably not my dream job. I think God has put me in this place for now, and will lead me somewhere else later. One thing about my job now that I really like is the flexibility it affords. I have ample paid time off and flexbility to come in late and leave early as needed.

And a great writer you are!
I believe your dream will come true.
I've worked in the medical field for 25 yrs, last 8 from my home. I am very fortunate because I get the best of both worlds.
I have some book ideas brewing, but never know if the dreams will come true:)
Great post, Nadine!

I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do (professionally)when I grow up. I'm enjoying my life as a stayhome mom right now, but my "baby" starts kindergarten in the fall so I'll have some free time on my hands. I haven't figures out how to spend it, though. I'm not ready to venture very far from the nest (not ready for a Mon-Fri 8 to 5 job - been there, did that). Still trying to figure out how to dream. :-)

Dream job...hmmmm had not really thought at it. I like what I do...but if I could change something, it would be to work part time so that I could spend more time with my daughter. Currently I'm in the office 4 days a week and the 5th day I work from home in the morning while she is in school and then I have the afternoon with her.

You and my pasters wife have the same job! She thinks God uses her sometimes to comfort those who call. She says she sometimes prays for them after she gets off the phone with them.

I hope your dream job comes true some day. But trust me God "is" using you in the meantime with your writing....right here on your blog. Yup! He is...you encourage me with ever post you write. Do you remember the Billy Graham story of how he came to the Lord? If your blog encourages even one person you have been used as a catalyst for your Papa above.

Thanks for the plug ;O)

I am a bus driver.... I drive 100 plus kids a day yelling screaming and just being well kids. I have a loud speaker and a cb. I enjoy giving bus tickets and love it when a kid really tries to be good. is this my dream job? no I wanted to be a teacher a 7 th and 8th grade english and drama teacher. but... I got my MRS degree and my m.o.m. degree and that stopped everything. so I volunteer in the special needs class room teaching sign launguage at the middle school and I love that. what I would truly love to do is stay home with my kids and be a mom and a mentor and well a person my kids can come to anytime. what would I do when the kids are in school? write and volunteer. I was told once when you teach you touch the future and if I can touch one life and make a difference then my job was well done. my dream job....parent, teach , love and learn.

This is going to sound silly, but when I was a child I dreamed of working in a doctors office doing exactly what you currently do. I had patient files all filled out and would play for hours. Presently, I love my job. I am the vault teller in a bank and I love everything about my job and the people I work with, it's truly a blessing to have a job where I can work with friends, socialize, do something I love and get paid.

Dang Na, you are a popular woman!

Yes, my job is AMAZING. How many people at my age can get paid to do something they feel is a step to their destiny?

Put me down in the "Dream Job" category. Or something close to that...I am still waiting on the promise of preaching in my "Bar Church"

Bottoms Up!

I never thought what I do would become my dream job, but I guess it is. I'm in sales and I love it. But, it's cush sales. I sell insurance. I get to sit at a desk with a giant Starbucks and talk to people about a product I know like the back of my hand. I feel lucky to like what I do!

Great post!!

Happy Weekend my friend!

When I was expecting my first child, I dreamed of being a stay-at-home mom, and now I am. I will be forever grateful to God for this gift.

As for a paying job, I don't know what my dream job would be. I suppose it may have something to do with wanting to be an incredibly talented and well paid scrapbooker.
