Things We Do for Love

In celebration of our 26th wedding anniversary, I did something for my honey that I knew he would like. The funny thing is when you’re doing something for someone out of love you can be blessed also. My husband loves my hair straight. (See picture above.) This is not to say that he doesn’t tell me how beautiful I am all the time. He loves me curly hair or straight. As you all can see by my sidebar picture I have naturally curly hair. I keep my hair curly because it is easier. I add gel and let it dry.

In order to have do my hair straight, I have to use a chemical straighten every three months, wash and blow dry my hair in sections and then use a curling iron. This takes about a good hour and half about once a week and there is the daily up keep.

My husband was teaching a class in Kelowna last week. So I thought I would surprise him by straightening my hair. He came home just as I was finishing up. When I came down the stairs he was very, very surprised. It was so curly that it reached a little bit pass my shoulders, but straight it goes half way down my back!

The smile on his face and how he kept telling everyone how great I looked really was great for my ego. I will be keeping my hair in this style for a while because he loves it so.

So how much am I really sacrificing a week? A couple of hours? It is a very small price of inconvenience to but that smile on my husband’s face. We do little things all the time for the people we love and some require very little effort. Some require a little more. Either way we do it because we love them – whether they are our children, parents or spouse.

We who are human can express our love in such simple ways. Why do have trouble believing that our God love us enough to do the same? Why are there times when I have trouble trusting that He will take care of the troubles that I face? He does little things for us daily just because He cares for us. Matthew 7:11 says, “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!”

Thank you Father for all the times you took care of me in the little ways. You are faithful in the everyday and on a larger scale. I’m grateful for the sacrifice You made for me. I’m thankful for Your love, grace and mercy.

You look gorgeous! How fun to have a change once in awhile. I read quickly through all your blogs to catch up. Thanks my dear friend for coming to Jenna’s graduation. It was so great to see your smiling face at the end of the aisle. It meant a lot to Jenna and our family that you came!
love ya,
Cindy

Nadine, you do look absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I bet it feels neat to have straight hair as a change as well! Especially since it feels so much longer. I same as you have this very curly hair! I went through a phase a year ago, I constantly straightened my hair like every other day! I loved it! Only problem is for me, I had to get my hair colored every 3 weeks instead of 4 due to regrowth more noticeable, (yes I am like 60% grey) and Since I did this so much my hair was too curly to be straight and to straight to be curly so either way I had to spend 1.5 hrs daily on my hair...Well over time that got old, I only straighten it once after my fresh hair color and gel and go now it took my hair 2 months to get back to my all natural curly state, and now it is SO much easier...I personally do like the straight look, and longer length it gives;)I think you are lucky to get to wear it both ways! You are a beautiful woman Nadine!

awww you are beautiful both ways, but I agree it's nice to put a smile on your hubby's face... now I've got that song stuck in my head! lol

I think that is so great Nadine! Your hair is beautiful both ways, however doing things for people with love is the only way to go. When Den does something *just* for me it makes me feel so loved. So, how nice of you to do this small thing for him if it makes his eyes light up!

I can totally relate to your hair! I have natural curl also - but mine has a mind of its own and it depends on the humidity in the air if I get a nice curl or not. The caribbean was great - Montana is dry - so I have to go through the work of straightening it in order to not scare anyone. It's a lot of work - but my hubby loves the results also.

Oprah has a saying, "Love is in the details"
I, like you, enjoying doing little things for my man, that I know he likes. I look at it as I am making deposits into his "love" account.

I love the scripture in Ps. 139, How precious are your thoughts towards me, O God, how vast is the sum of them............ He is always doing little things for me to notice how much He love me.

You are beautiful either way! I have to fight to get any kind of life into my hair. It's naturally poker straight and no body at all.

My hubby likes it when I get my hair strengthened too...I usually get help (as in go to a hairdresser) because I haven't been too successful at doing it myself.

The key to a successful marriage? It's in the little things-isn't it! Even if one of those little things....takes forever to accomplish! You look great in both hair styles!

Now, tell us...how does your hubby change his hair for you???? :) Looks like he has a pretty cool--permanent look goin' on!

Your point about how we define sacrifice is an excellent one! Nothing can compare to the lasting, eternal sacrifice that Jesus made on our behalf. Still, your post highlights how important it is to make your hubby smile!!!

How sweet it truly is!

Very true, Nadine. We do things out of love, but sometimes don't understand that God sent His son for our redemption because of love. We think that we need to add something to it...
You look beautiful with straight and curly hair. I think it is neat that you took the time to straighten your hair because it puts a huge smile on your hubby's face :)
Blessing to you and yours.

OK first things first, I have naturally curly hair and it only takes me 20 min. You gotta go to a salon or Sally's and get yourself a professional "ceramic" straightning iron. Make sure it is solid cermic not plated. Then with the rest of your time you can spend it with our honey. I like you hair curly too.
Great scripture choice, so true isn't it.

Love the straight hair, but also love the curly. I used to be jealous of people like you, until I realized that curly hair is as much work as straight hair.

You're awesome!

You are truly beautiful either way... but how sweet for you to make the little change because you know your husband loves it! You two are just so adorable together! It's wonderful to see your love.

Hi Nadine.
Belated congrats to you and yours. You two rock!
I have naturally wavy/curly hair, but not as curly as you. It's a treat for me to straighten my hair but takes work to keep the fuzz away, and I have a lot of hair but fine.
My husband loves my curls and even more when I run the curling iron through, which I do to keep the fuzz away.
He likes straight but prefers curly on me, and like your husband I'm told I'm beautiful as well, straight or curly. He just has a preference and it brings him a smile as well.
You are right. It's a small sacrifice to make your husband happy. Thanks for reminding me. It is rewarding to give, as I always find I'm blessed doubly.
Thanks for welcoming me back. I was thinking about you and your blog and was delighted to see you had stopped by and said hello.
God is great.

What a wonderful way to bless your husband!! Soooo many women today do things because THEY want to, not because it pleases their husband. How sweet and kind!

I like straight too! I also have naturally curly hair and love going to the hairdresser to get it straightened. Last time I decided to get blonde hightlights which I have never done before and it was the best haircut I ever had and my husband loved it too! It was so awesome getting such a good reaction from him.

Such a sweet post! You're pretty which-ever way you wear your hair. I'm currently working on letting my husband know how much I appreciate him (I IRONED his shirts today). And you are right, a gesture here and there isn't too much time to ask for. Happy anniversary!
