I finally watched the movie, “The Notebook.” I know it’s been out since 2004, but for some reason I missed it. If you haven’t seen it don’t read any further, go rent it and then come back. The following contains the ending of the movie.
The movie begins with an elderly gentleman named, Duke and an elderly lady in a nursing home. Duke reads to her a story about two young people in love, named Noah and Allie. We get to hear about how they met. We learn that they were separated by Allie’s mother who didn’t approve of Noah’s financial class. It’s obvious that Duke has affection for this elderly lady. As the love story unfolds, you find out that Duke is really Noah and the elderly lady is Allie. The sad part is that Allie doesn’t remember Noah because she has severe Alzheimer’s disease.
After a seven year separation, Allie comes back to Noah. He promises her that he would love her forever, even though it may not be easy. Fighting is okay because love trumps turmoil. The doctors and Noah’s children tell him that there is no hope for reaching Allie. Her disease is progressive and she will never know who he is. Noah never gave up; instead he lived at this nursing home to be near Allie and to read to her the story of their lives. You find out that the story was written by Allie with an inscription, “Read to me and I’ll come back to you.” His devotion to her and faith that she would come back to him moved me to tears. There was a very brief moment when she realized the story was about her and him before she had a terrible set back. The ending nearly did me in. They died together in their sleep.
This was a story of love that never gave up. This was a story of hope and faith in love that is eternal. Tom asked me what made me cry. He wanted to know which character I related to. You know in this story it didn’t matter. I could see either one us never giving up on the other one regardless of what doctors may say.
Love that lasts a lifetime is always a gripping story. It grips us if we don’t have it and it grips us if we do. I’m blessed for having found that kind of love. I know that I’m not alone because there are many out there who have been blessed to find their “Noah.”
Lord I thank You for Tom. I thank You Father for Your love.

I love Nicholas Sparks' books - have you read the other one about the same characters? I can't remember right now which one it was. But I just finished the latest one, The Choice. Really touching!
What a beautiful story. I had never heard of this movie before.
I cried so hard through this movie! Loved it enough to own it! Glad you finally got to see it!
Now you HAVE to read THE WEDDING, by Nicholas Sparks. It is a beautiful sequel (of sorts) to the Notebook.
I LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! The Notebook and have the movie in our family viewing library. I cry each and everytime we watch it. The scene with James Gardner and his beloved after she returns to him.....is stunning!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed this movie. What a great movie!

I love Nicholas Sparks! On my fall reading list is The Choice. And I absolutely loved reading The Wedding last year.
I did read this book about 6 years ago and it was so very touching. But I've never seen the movie! And if you haven't read The Wedding, it is about the man in the love story of the Notebook's daughter and son in law!
(I just replied to your post below...you fabulous gal, you!)
I read the book, but that was a long time ago. Love does triumph!
I haven't seen it so I didn't read the whole post;) Sounds good though. Thanks.
The movie is good, but the book is much better (usually the case). I remember reading the book out by the pool many summers ago (before I was married) crying behind my sunglasses. I hoped I would one day find love like that, and I have been blessed to have been given that gift.
I read this book a few years back but didn't see this movie until last January when I was recovering from having my wisdom teeth out. Between the beautiful love story and the Codiene, I was a blubbering mess!

Hiya Nadine, thank you for the recommendation, I'll check this out at the DVD store.
Nadine, it seems to me that in this present generation, true love takes alot of effort. Divorce rate is so high and people's temper just flare...I have so much to learn and to reinforce my love for my hubby. True you, your love for each other is something that the younger generation really need to learn from.
I am learning and growing day by day to love my hubby more and this movie as related by you touches my heart too.
Thank you once again.
I LOVE this film too. Thanks for the reminder to see it again! I cried. Even my husband cried. But I still love it.

I know people say that's a schmaltzy movie, but I liked it, too.
I do not want to see that movie. I have heard how good it is, but I am not a fan of sad movies. EVERYONE only has good things to say, but still. I'm glad that YOU enjoyed it though. :)
sounds like something I'd love to watch. tnxx Nadine!
Keshi.
"Moved to tears" my girls and I sob out loud when we watch this movie. We are ridiculous I know, but this is an all time "Tear Jerker" as my Dad would say. My sister read the sequel on a plane trip "The Wedding" and had the same hysterics. She kept apologizing to the guy next to her. LOL
Thanks for the great write up and reminder about this great movie. I agree with Jill@who,the book was even better.
Wasn't that the best movie evah! We watched it at ladies group one night and we all loved it. I think I should read the book too. They say the book is always better.....wonder why?....perhaps our own personalized imagination is better than the directors!!!
This is the movie that made me cry the whole time.
Love is amazing, glad you found yours.
I think this story must be a touching one... romantic.. ;)
I LOVE THAT MOVIE it is definitely one of my absolute favorites, I cried too! SUCH a great love story!
Yes I know! I LOVED this movie...and saw it in theatre. It's one of my favorites.
