Crushed, But Not Destroyed

The last few days have been very difficult for Tom and I. He had his annual PET Scan last Friday. We went to the doctor’s for results today. It was bad news. The lymphoma returned near the last occurrence in his stomach area. There was only one lesion spotted, which is better than having multiple ones. He has to go through chemo again.

I make no secret of my love for Tom. I adore him for so many reasons. Chemo is difficult. The emotional and especially the physical strain can wear you out. The last time, Tom would often say, “Let’s enjoy the good days, endure the bad and regardless press forward.” You see what a wise man I’m married to. I know that many of you will pray and so I thank you ahead of time for those prayers.

I was reminded earlier in the day by the Lord of this scripture from 2 Corinthians 4:7-10:

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body.

Nadine, I am so sorry that your husbands lymphoma has returned. I know what you and Tom must be feeling. I know how hard chemo is on the body. I feel all that you are feeling as Pete and I went through this many times. I will certainly pray for Tom and you! I know each time Pete's lymphoma returned, I felt everything he did , it's so hard to have someone you love so much go through this. I know that it is also difficult for the wife to stay strong for your husband.

Have they thought about a stem cell transplant for him. Since he only has a small single spot. I know they do alot of stem cell transplants for lymphoma's where my husband received treatment.

I am so glad that you have each other and the love that you share, to help you through this. Nadine, that is really terrible news and I know it must hurt deeply. I will pray for Tom, and I will pray for you.

I'll tell you something. God spoke to my heart as I was praying just now. I got up in the middle of this comment and went and found an empty notebook to keep by the computer JUST for prayer requests. My Blogland prayer journal. Tom and you are the very first entries into that prayer journal.

Let me know if I can do anything for you Nadine. I'm here for you if you need to talk.

Oh Nadine...my heart goes out to you again. My 3 year old nephew is currently going through chemo for leukemia and I see and hear how it's difficult. I will be praying for you. After I read this post, Isaiah 40: 31 came to me. I also love verses 28-30.

28
Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He will not grow tired or weary,
and his understanding no one can fathom.

29
He gives strength to the weary
and increases the power of the weak.

30
Even youths grow tired and weary,
and young men stumble and fall;

31
but those who hope in the LORD
will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles;
they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not be faint.
