Portrait by Scarlet

Today I got a very nice surprise in the mail. Scarlet, who became a friend through blogland, is an up and coming artist (she wouldn’t call herself that, but I would). Believe it or not the portrait above is her very first colored pencil sketch. She has been taking art classes for about a year (correct me if I’m wrong Scarlet). I think she’s very talented and amazing to pursue something she loves doing.

So how did I end up with a Portrait by Scarlet? She has from time to time posted her art work. She did a Marilyn Monroe pencil sketch that I thought was awesome but she was harshly criticized in my opinion by an artist she respected. So many people have sketched Marilyn – she’s an icon and I guess he thought it wasn’t up to par. She decided she would draw “real people” that a million other people haven’t sketched before. I volunteered very quickly. I never had anyone do a portrait of me before, so I thought it would be a cool thing to have happen. Little did I know how thrilled I would be and how awesome it would come out.

Thank you Scarlet for this beautiful gift that I will treasure always. Now I’ll have to get a nice frame for it.

In 2006 I told an artist friend I always wanted to draw, but I wasn't born with that kind of talent. She encouraged me to take a class and I've taken several. No, I'm not an artist (yet), but I'm on my way. ;)

Thank you for your kind words, Nadine. You were a lot of fun (and a challenge) to sketch!

Great job!! People are the hardest to draw...I think it takes that something...twinkle in the eye maybe, that not too many can capture to make the art come to life. I think it captures you perfectly.

Two things I'd love to be able to do, sing and have artistic skills! I can't do either!

It is a great first time colored pencil sketch!

I've thought about taking art classes before.I've only had a few lessons from my Grandma who graduated as an Artist from a local College in town. I may follow in her footsteps too, or not, she always told me there was no money in it. So who knows, maybe it'll just be a hobby, someday. (money is important to get through the art classes.).

Hi Nadine!
What a fabulous present!! She completely captured your warm personality and sensational smile! I so envy Scarlet's talents to be able to convey her subjects vitality on paper or canvas. That takes a remarkable artist!! I'm sure you will keep that lovely gift for a long time.
Hugs, Bebe :)

That is amazing! I am always in awe of talented people--I mean, talent I am completely lacking. I remember when I was in junior high I fancied myself as quite the artist. Horses were my favorite thing to sketch. They were...ok. But people? They came out with odd looking heads, eyes that made Igor look normal.

Scarlet is so talented. I went to her blog and saw her Marilyn sketch. Wow!

Speaking of talent, what is the best way to get an autographed copy of your book? Do you want me to order thru Amazon and then send it to you?

I am impressed! I am totally not good at drawing people, I do best with inanimate objects.
