Coffee Snob

This morning I stopped in Starbucks to buy a pound of coffee. It’s actually cheaper that way believe it or not. The lady asked if I wanted her to grind the beans. I looked at her as if she just insulted my mother. No thank you, I rather do that myself as I use it. She then told me that was the best way (as if I didn’t know). Actually she was very nice but being nice is not funny.

I grew up in NYC as you all know and we moved to West Virginia for eight years. Back in those days I bought Maxwell House and kept my can in the freezer to keep it fresh. Please don’t think ill of me. I was naïve.

When we moved to Washington (the Starbucks state) it quickly dawned on us that we were not in Kansas anymore. We were invited to someone’s house for dinner and afterwards they asked if we would like some coffee. They proceeded to take out a grinder and grind fresh coffee beans.

So when in Rome…we bought a coffee grinder and tried to blend in with the other coffee snobs we grew to love. My son worked for Starbucks so I quickly stopped putting my coffee beans in the freezer.

I don’t know when it happened, but soon we found ourselves being coffee snobs. We loved lattes, espresso and good coffee. No longer did we buy already ground coffee or get coffee at McDonalds. The transformation to office coffee snobs is complete.

It got me to thinking. What else in my life am I snob about? What things I can’t do without?

I guess you can say I’m a God snob. Now that I have Him in my life, I can’t go back. I need to have my daily dose. When I don’t, I’m cranky. I’m not focused and I feel a bit lost. During this time in our lives, if I wasn't a God snob, I would be in serious trouble.

So what are you a snob about?

I'm a coffee snob, too. I've gone so far as to buy all my own syrups for flavored coffee. And I refuse to drink coffee from styrofoam cups. (I think it makes the coffee taste funky.)

I don't think I'm a snob about much else.

Hmmm... I'll have to think on this some more. I am human so I'm sure there's other "snob" areas that I'm just not conscious of righ now.

Blessings!

Two Dawns in a row!

I hate to admit it, but I keep my store brand coffee in the freezer - because we don't drink it and it's a long time between servings. Except for our Kona coffee beans we bought in Hawaii - DC actually bought a grinder for that pound of beans.

I can't think of what I'm a snob about - I'll have to watch myself to see.

definitely a fellow coffee snob. http://griggboys.blogspot.com/2009/02/spin-cycle-cutting-cost-corners.html

i'd like to think i'm a God snob but i will be honest (its double bad to lie about God) i'm more of a bible study snob. so far, no one can rival beth moore - in my book. maybe that translates to God snob since it is through bible study that i deepen my relationship with God. that's how i worship. some people sing, i get geeky about hebrew translations and customs from back in the day.

I'm a snob about my friends... they've got to have it all. That's why I probably won't be really happy till they are living near me again ;)

Ok, time to get personal...my snobbishness is hygiene related: I love my bubble baths. Hate showers. Snobbish about my bath foaming bath gel. Water has to be really warm, but not too hot. Just right.

So, maybe that's too personal.

Ok, yeah, I'm with you--I'm a coffee snob. Yeah, that's it.
And, like Dawn, never drink out of styrofoam.

Have a great week! Praying for you and Tom...

I think I have to be a chocolate snob then Nadine ;) For example, I'm good with Cadbury's chocolate from UK or Aussie but definitely not those from Malaysia.

Yep, can't have McDonald's coffee too ;(

No coffee for me...but a God snob? You bet!

Maybe I need to be a coffee snob too ~ my husband and I are the worst coffee makers around, although he drinks it everyday. I like iced-coffee but mainly I'm a tea drinker.

I love reading your posts. Now I'm going to ponder the areas of my life that I am a snob.

I'm a HUGE coffee snob (Seattle totally does it to you) and Mateo's a beer snob. And we're okay with that. 8)

So funny how you came from the east and how quickly you can become one, isn't it?

Well, you can imagine having lived all my life in Washington or Oregon, I am a total coffee snob!

But when I was growing up, it was before the days of Starbucks and others, and I didn't think I'd like that awful Foldiers and Taster's Choice my parents drank when I grew up...and I was right! ;)

Coffee Snob, ditto, and oh dear I think I could confess to half a dozen more snobberies. Is that a word :]
This one will be a big surprise to all...I am a garden snob for sure =/
Maybe snob isn't the word...just very particular...lol

I think I am feeling guilty, yikes!

I'm a wannabe God snob. Lately I feel so unattached to Him.

But I'm a friend snob. I only like friends that are positive, drama-free and uplifting to be around.

I'm a word snob. I only like the words I use. No other words will do. I'm also a Kleenex snob. I'll only use Puffs with lotion or my sleeve.

And, apparently, a beer snob. Andrew Coleman likes crappy beer.

Overwhelmingly agree with you on coffee! Jennifer (dustbunnyhostage) actually linked me here after both my wife and I posted on coffee needs as well. Coffee and God, amen.

Apparently I'm a barbecue snob. Coffee, not so much.

I'm a coffee snob too. I have been getting gevalia in the mail for over 10 years. I also have to have French Vanilla creamer. In fact one year I actually made a resolution not to run out of creamer for the whole year. It was the only resolution I mad and I kept it.

I am a snob about hotels. I cannot stay in anything that doesn't have a separate bedroom. :-)

I am a Peanut Butter and Chocolate snob. I grew up on "Choosy Moms Choose Jif" and I can't let it go. My wife likes Peter Pan so we have two separate jars of peanut butter and the kids eat Jif, just like dad.

When it comes to chocolate, Hershey's is it. My wife tried to buy me an off-brand for my chocolate milk and ice cream and I almost died when I opened the pantry. Never again. She now knows better.

That's OK. She's a Coke Icee snob. That started when she was pregnant with Megan. Three kids later and she still has to go to our local BP just to get one when she has a TV night.

Like you, I believe life is too short to swallow bad coffee. I make my espresso with the sugary foam on top every morning @ 7 am.

Funny, how I can be "religious" about that, but I haven't had "breakfast with God" in a awhile. With all the changes in my life, I better chat with him over my café con leche tomorrow.

(Sorry, I was just thinking out loud. Thanks for the wake-up call.)

All my best to you and Tom...

I'm not sure what I'm a snob about really.
and I always get coffee (mocha actually) if I even get some. I can't very often, because just the smell of it makes Jeff throw up. from Tim Hortons. I think it's a Canada thing though, but I like Timmy's way more than Starbucks! Does that make me snobby?

I gave up coffee and miss it EVERYDAY.
sigh
Everyday.

I am not a coffee snob. I have some ground coffee in my freezer that probably needs to be thrown out. I do enjoy a good cup of coffee made by coffee snobs from time to time.

I'm probably a snob about something. Just can't think of anything at the moment.

I am a total coffee snob, now I grind my own beans and use a french press.... HEAVEN!

I think I am a snob in other areas too....hard to admit but there are areas of town I am so thankful I don't live in.

hehe I"m a coffee snow, lol I hate starbucks quite honestly.. I like my organically grown private labels, are if I'm in a rush, it's gotta be a Timmy's (Canadian).
I make my syrups and have coffee recipes! And i've got probably too many coffee instruments i care to admit.. we're doing the french press currently for our favorite.

God snob... hmmm now that's a different thought, yes, i'm in that category.. though, I do like to share him, so i don't know if that counts as a snob lol.. i don't like sharing my coffee as much hahaah

I love my coffe but I am content with any coffee. I am satisfied with any kind really. I don't know what I am a snob about!

I totally have not been keeping up...I am sooo sorry. I had to catch up.

Love the "God snob" haa haa.

I too am a coffee snob; however, being unemployed, my snobish behavior has moved out of the daily Starbucks world...just way too expensive; however, Costco sells Starbucks. My coffee liking has moved to a brand called Boca Java that I get online...I must grind the beans myself as well. I actually woke up at 4am thinking that I could smell the coffee brewing, so I got up and came downstairs...the coffee maker wasn't even on. So, I pushed the button and became a "God snob" while I waited. ;)

Oh, Nadine, your words always so true...I too am cranky if I don't start my day with Him -- I feel disorganized - frazzled you might say...I do need a doze every.single.morning -- time with Him that is...

I guess I'm a coffee snob as well. I never really thought of it until I read your post.

So fun....I suppose I am a snob about coffee too! There are definitely other snobbish issues I seem to follow. Like where I shop...Target is waaaaaaaaay better than Walmart! Completely lame but oh so important(not). Great Question though and totally fun.
