What a Week

Last week was nuts. On Wednesday Tom’s tooth hurt so much he went to the dentist. Understand this; Tom doesn’t like going to the doctors. He was in pain and called the doctor himself and made an appointment. His tooth was infected and needed to be pulled. He thought that sounded simple enough, but it didn’t turn out that way.

Cancer complicates things like having a tooth pulled. The dentist didn’t want to do it because of the chemo treatments. Instead he sent him to a dentist that was also a medical doctor. It sense to him so he went to the other dentist, but the dentist didn’t want to pull a tooth until he got authorization from Tom’s oncologist. He was late on Thursday and the tooth extraction was scheduled for Friday morning.

In the midst of this craziness on Thursday, our car started making a very nasty noise. We had to take it to the mechanic and didn’t feel it could wait until the next day. With all the driving around we had to do we thought it best to drop it off. We only have one car, so Tom spotted an Enterprise rent-a-car. We rented a car for a day and dropped the car off. This was a good thing because . . .

The next day the oncologist wouldn’t sign off on the tooth extraction until Tom had a blood test to check on his white blood count. Everything was fine and Tom’s tooth pulling was a go. The poor guy was in lots of pain. He has a high tolerance for pain, but this was getting to him.

Unfortunately during the tooth extraction the tooth broke. That’s right it broke. Now they have to rank even harder and cut and stitch. Finally the infected tooth was out and his face was swollen but he was on his way to recovery.

The car was fixed but none of this was inexpensive. It all could have been worse. I just felt so bad for Tom that with everything else he had to go through this was something he could have done without. He’s recuperating and slowly getting better.

Our Saturday was spent relaxing and being with each other while he healed up. We love quiet days like today, just enjoying each other.

I hope your week was much better and that this coming week will bring you all unexpected blessings.

I can't believe they make him wait with an infected tooth!
poor guy!
glad you can find peace in each other's company, our Neurologist told us that SO many couples split up who go thru illness, it is great that you so TOGETHER! and a testimony to others!
Praying for a shower of mercy and angelic intervention for you and Tom, and of course continued healing in his body.
xoxo

Oh I feel SO sorry for Tom having to go through all that this past week on top of everything else! Tooth pain can be the worst...
I bet it felt so good to be done with that and just relax this weekend!

I was just catching up and looking at the old photos in the post below...how priceless are those! You two were adorable! (Still are!)

The enemy of our souls is attacking you from all sides. We know what that means....he knows God has big and good plans for you and is trying his best to thwart them. In Jesus name he cannot and will not. Praying for you both.

As I was reading this my husband said "What is wrong?" Obviously my face was drawn up in a terrible wince.

My word. With all he is dealing with and dentists and tooth pain to boot. I am SO sorry for Tom. Praise God that the offending tooth is out of his mouth.

Praying for you both today.

Sounds like our week last week. Tabs had a bad tooth...misdiagnosed early in the week, emergency surgery at Kadlec Friday...hospital stay...plus the week before we had car problems that were somewhat costly....but God! He is the great equalizer! Valentines day is becoming a family tradition of Tabs being in the hospital!!!! I hope things are improving for you guys.

Oh, Nadine, I'm so sorry you and Tom had such a rough week. Hope you are doing better now with your car fixed and Tom's infected tooth out.

Glad you were able to relax and spend quiet time together Saturday. We all need those times, but you two not only need it but *deserve* it after all you have been through lately!

Blessing on you this next week--may it be uneventful and a sweet time for you two.

Oh Gosh, the anguish going round getting the clearance for tooth extraction is too much, so sorry about this Nadine.

Hope he is healing now my friend.

Ouch! That made our family's little dentist adventure sound like a walk in the park. So sorry, but glad Tom is on the mend and that you had a lovely day "resting" together.

Blessings on this new week!

I feel so bad for the two of you!! Who would have thought a simple tooth extraction could be so difficult? But I understand that being under chemo could complicate things.

Here's praying for a nice, relaxing week for the two of you!

Seems like problems often tend to pile up when we least need them. I sure hope things take a better turn in the days ahead. (I'm glad that tooth is finally out. Sounds like it was miserable.)

Oh, Nadine and Tom, I'm so sorry! Getting the run-around with an infected tooth *and* having expensive car trouble. I hope that's the end of major crises, at least for a while.

eek! that reminds me I haven't seen the Dentist in 10 years. I suppose I should soon. I'm glad Tom got the tooth pulled before the infection spread and got any worse!

I'm sorry Tom had to go through such an ordeal and being in pain, no less. Poor guy. I hope he's feeling better now and enjoying your company.

I'll have you know I attended church on Sunday and I loved the message. I'll have to blog about it. :)

I pray both of you have a peaceful, beautiful week together...and that you get your car back soon!

I've had 3 sick kids, 2 doctor visits and about $200 in doctor bills, medicine and popsicles to comfort the ill. But that doesn't match up to Tom's tooth trouble. So sorry for all of that. You are both in my daily prayers. God bless.

Sorry to hear about Tom's tooth and your car, but glad to hear that both are fine now. What a day. Hopefully your relaxing days will be far more then these kind.

PS I got your book yesterday and it's big, I love big books. I was so excited. I am finishing a book and then I am going to read it. Can't wait.

Through all of the bouts of cancer that my husband had hs teeth were really bad. He had a very high tolerenace for pain. Never took pain pills, or maybe on occassion he would take half of one. His teeth would get so lose he would pull them himself. Can you imagine. Before his stem cell transplant they pulled them all, didn't even put him under, just novacaine, and a hammer and chisel. What a man!
