Blessed Child

I just finished reading Blessed Child, a book by Bill Bright and Ted Dekker. They wrote a sequel called A Man Called Blessed. If you know me, then you know that I love Ted Dekker. Blessed Child is one of his earlier work (2001). In the last couple of years his writings have become more than edgy; it has become a bit dark. His later work is not for everyone. I admire how his creative mind works.

Even though I’ve read this book before, recently I’ve read it again. When there is a book I enjoy, I re-read it over and over again every couple of years. It’s amazing how I can forget some of the details of the book. What I remember is the gist of the story and that it moved me in some way.

Blessed Child is about a young orphan boy who was abandoned and raised in an Ethiopian monastery. The back cover states the following:

When relief expert Jason Marker agrees to take Caleb from the monastery, he unwittingly opens humanity’s doors to an incredible journey filled with intrigue and peril. Together with Leiah, the French Canadian nurse who escapes to America with them, Jason discovers Caleb’s stunning power. But so do the boy’s enemies, who will stop at nothing to destroy him. Jason and Leiah fight for the boy’s survival while the world erupts into debate over the source of the boy’s power.

I fell in love with Caleb’s innocence and great love of God. His relationship with the Father is one that moved me to jealousy (in a good way). It made me desire to know God in such a way and deepen my intimacy with Him. No matter how good my relationship with God is, I don’t want compliancy to creep into it. A story like this one, makes me reexamine my relationship and strengthen the areas that are weak.

Some books make me forget, some make me cry, some entertain me and others move me to a deeper relationship with God.

What type of books do you enjoy?

I read this book several years ago.
Bill Bright was born in the little town of Coweta where we live. Highway 51 was named for him after his death.

Currently reading Joel Rosenberg's series. Read The Last Jihad and currently reading The Last Days. Important books for the time and day we find ourselves living in.

I've read all of Ted Dekker's books, and I agree: the newer ones are a little much. He is so creative and I never know what way he's taking me as I read.

The last two books I read (I read ALOT) are Deception by Randy Alcorn--really long, but I was glad because it's such a great book, and A Mile in My Flip-Flops by Melody Carlson--she is a very fun writer.

But, of course, your fans are awaiting *your* next book. I REALLY enjoyed reading it! :)

You know I've been struggling with the whole spirituality thing and just today I was talking with a friend about it who is on the same path. I think books like this might help rather than the mystery and suspense I'm used to.

I've been reading a few pages of your book a day and it's taking me forever to finish because of all the distractions. I am enjoying it immensely and will probably read "90 Minutes in Heaven" next since I've heard good things about it. I'll probably finish that one in 2010 at the rate I'm going. ;)

I wish I could say I do alot of reading but honestly I just cannot stay focussed...I guess I am to high strung if I sit for 30 min. I am sound asleep!;)

I really did enjoy your book! I feel like I start books but never get to the end! quite frustrating really! I am still proud to say I read your book and it was very good;)

This book sounds good as well!

I have never read this particular author before, but I will have to check him out. I love to read and I try to read a little of everything.

How are you two doing? Sorry it has been a while since I have been around. Hope you are both doing well

Soudns like an interesting book. I used to NEVER reread books. I felt like I had been there done that. Now that I am *cough* older and more mature I have gone back and reread many books and reread then again! I forget so much! I guess there is only so much we can cram into our heads!

I like a variety of books. Ultimately it has to be a story that lures me in and keeps me no matter what type.

I like Ted Dekker but never heard of Bill Bright! I love books that get me right away...I know probably shallow but I have such limited time to read that if it is too slow I don't like putting the energy into finishing it. I like all sorts of books but I think I like Sci-fi type the most, I love the imagination it takes to "go there" with the writer!

We love his Red Black White series (correct order?) but we haven't read the earlier books. Hubby's bday is Thursday - maybe I could find it for him.

Thanks for the recommendation - I will read it!

I love books that challenge me to grow in my relationship with God, and I love historical fiction. I also love biographies. People are so interesting.

I really don't spend much time reading, I can't seem to have the time. I do read the books that my women's group at church read and meet weekly to talk about. We only read 1 or two chapters a week so I can keep up with that. We just started a new book- The Raggamuffin Gospel by Brennan Manning. We also read Experiencing God and To Busy not to Pray.
