Overwhelmed

Overwhelmed – what does that mean to you? The dictionary states it is to overpower somebody emotionally – to affect somebody’s emotions in a complete or irresistible way.

Life is so busy but not just for me. Everyone seems to have so much going on. There is always something to do or somewhere to go. Sometimes there is a crisis you have to deal with…health issues…work issues…family issues, etc. So how do you handle it when life is feeling overwhelmed? Well you could cry, but that doesn’t solve anything. The end result is red blood shot eyes. You could eat an entire cheesecake (remember Golden Girls), but that will either make you sick or you’ll gain a hundred pounds. You could scream but that might cause your neighbors to call the police.

Yesterday morning I reached for my wedding ring on my dresser. This action caused my diamond earring that was also on my dresser to fall on the carpet. My carpet is light tan. I couldn’t see it so I started to feel for it. I even reached under the dresser to no avail. The earring holds a sentimental place in my heart because Tom gave them to me. Normally something like this wouldn’t be a big deal. I would just keep looking until I found it. Enter “overwhelmed.” I decided to just lay there on the ground face down and prayed – “Lord, please just let me find my earring.” A simple request but within seconds as I placed my hand under the dresser again I found the earring. So in one moment I felt overwhelmed and then in the next the Lord answered my simple prayer. I was reminded what 2 Cor. 12:9 state:

But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me.

So thank you Lord for your grace. Thank you for encouraging me in the little things. Thank you that in my weakness you are strong.

Glad you found the special earring. I think we all feel overwhelmed from time to time but it seems to me that those seemingly little things are the ones that sometimes push us over the edge.. almost over the edge anyway.

Well there is definitely power in prayer and I feel that the Lord wants us to take ALL things to him..big and little. Amazing how he touches us in little ways isn't it??
BTW..I loved the Golden Girls!!

Wow that is SO true!! It is crazy how life can get so "busy" but is it productive?a question I have to often ask myself.
Yeah overwhelmed is a good word to describe moments in life and thank goodness we have God to rely on!!!
Great post!!!

Hi Nadine! Glad too you found your earring. God is good, and hears us in even our whispers. I have been "over the edge" many times these last few month with waiting to find a "nest" and the selling of our home, and my Beloved and a possible job change...whew!! Two things can happen in times like these: I can press in to my Savior..or I can decide to go it along. Having our Savior near is so much easier!! Have a scrumptious week!!

I had that the other day. My hubby bought me a new pair of earrings 2 days ago as a special gift. I wore them out and lost one by the time I came home from my class.. I had to pray and just believe God was going to help me.. he knew what they meant to me.. and I know jewlery is unimportant in the big scheme of things, but it sure was God's grace when hubby found it behind our car in the morning before the snow melted on the road! (of all places to be!)
hehe.. I remember the GG's episode of that too!

My daughter just asked me the other day what I thought personally about praying about all the small things in our life and taking them to God? I told her the Lord is Our Father and He wants to be there for us in everything and then our faith grows when we are looking to Him in the really big things too. I am so thankful you found your ear rings, I have very little jewlry and what I do have is very sentimental too.

I often feel overwhelmed, especially lately with everything we've been going through concerning my son's behavioral issues. I'm not a particularly religious person and have been to church but once since January. I feel so lacking in . . . something. Then yesterday, when all was quickly going downhill, I received an e-mail from a lady at church saying how much she's missed us. And that was a piece of news I desperately needed.

Glad you found the earring :-)

I have had that happen many many times. God is good and if we will just take the time to ask, many times he will deliver us. I am so glad that you found that earring. I have felt overwhelmed many times, but after prayer felt refreshed. Beautiful post!!

Yes...we are always 'busy' with our everyday chores that it does seems overwhelming.

Having said that, I have always been 'overwhelmed' by your abundance of love here to Tom as well as to everyone that crosses your path and I'm glad to be here :D

Phew! I hate when that happens! Glad you found your earring!

I find myself overwhelmed many times during the day....your reminder is relevant. When I become overwhelmed, I become paralyzed...and stop moving and thinking! It is when we have God's word hidden in our hearts...that we can still her the small, still, voice reminding us...I am with you. What a great post!

Wow Naidine, amazing post again, as usual. I have never actually prayed about something small like that and had it happen until about three or four months ago. It happened twice in a relatively short period of time and ended up being an answer to a prayer and a reminder that we truly are not alone in this world, if we will only knock on the door!

Love the pic.

Thanks for sharing your post. When I read "Life is so busy but not just for me," I had to read it a couple times to understand you aren't busy. I thought at first you were trying to say life isn't for you! LOL! Great pic....

Praise The Lord you found your earring! Getting caught up in the daily duties of life itself can sometimes be overwhelming, then you think, God won't give me anything I cannot handle...
Be Blessed!

I just finished blogging about my own busy-ness, and then read your blog. I'm smiling b/c I know soon I'll be lying face down on the carpet, hopefully listening as God say, "now that I've got your attention...." :-) Great post!

I know we all feel overwhelmed at times. I know prayers like that are such a sweet gift from God. When I pray what I think of as a simple prayer like that, sometimes I feel guilty, but we are to "pray without ceasing," right?

I'm so glad you found your earring, and next time you are going to post my picture on your blog, please ask first! (just kidding, but I feel like I look like your cartoon many mornings).

Have a wonderful evening. I get to go out with just my sweet husband and have coffee and look at books without the girls...I'm so excited!
