This past week has been extremely busy. It’s been a time of adjusting to our new surroundings, unpacking and loads of activity - our first Sunday at church, invitations to dinners, a wedding vow renewal, a family party and a doctor’s appointment. It’s all been good.
We haven’t lived in NY for 16 years. We never lived out on Long Island so getting around is a bit different. I’m grateful for Roxy (our GPS). I’m also grateful that Tom has done the majority of the driving. People drive very aggressively. I don’t think New Yorkers realize how aggressive they drive. Tom says it’s because they are tired of being stuck in traffic and as soon as they see any opening – it’s off they go. I’ve grown soft in the past 16 years but Tom has confidence I can drive around here. Time will tell.
We went to the bank and when I walked in I was taken aback by the tellers under glass. The bank tellers work from behind bullet proof glass. Hummmm… it was a normal sight for me 16 years ago.
Don’t get me wrong, there so many things I love about NY.
I’ve love the people (family, church, and friends), the food (pizza, bagels, etc.) and the culture. There is so much to do here and so much to see. It is a fascinating place to live.
Adjusting takes time. It’s only been a week. I know God has bought us back to NY for so many reasons. I’m really excited about being here. I can’t wait to see what God will do with us in this place. The people at church are wonderful. They are a great group of people that I’m enjoying getting to know better.
It’s been a great week – busy – but great.

I'm glad you're letting us share this move and adventure with you. When you are in God's perfect will there is always peace.
Happy Mother's Day Nadine.

Funny how what once was normal now is foreign. Texas to New York is about like moving from Romania to the US. You'll settle in soon.
It has been quite a couple of years for you guys - and you've gone full circle. I know you'll be so glad to be back home.
Happy Mother's Day - I'll bet your kids wish they could be with you!
"I can’t wait to see what God will do with us in this place." Me either! Maybe you'll write another book.
Thank you so much for your sweet comments on my blog earlier today.
Mother's Day blessings to you....
Hope all the adjusting goes well! I grew up on LI (Hempstead) - but it's been quite a few years - like 19 already, so I bet it's changed a LOT.
I am glad to hear you are adjusting well! Heavy traffic and fast cars would make me nervous as well!
Happy Mothers Day Nadine!
Happy Mother's Day!
Every time we move it takes me a while to adjust. Hang in there the "culture shock" will wear off!
I remember coming from small-town NY to Miami and feeling culture shock with all the folks speaking Spanish...and I'M CUBAN!!
Sounds like you're starting to adjust already...and meeting some great people!
Happy Mother's Day to you!! :)
God takes us on fascinating new adventures... and there is always a reason or 1000s of reasons! Maybe it's the beauty of a New York flower or 1000s of new smiles...
You are an amazing, talented, beautiful, creative, loving woman and you inspire me each day! I am so happy to know you... and today I wish you a magnificent Mother's Day!
Happy Mothers day Nadine.
I guess in 16 years a lot of things changed eh!
Not sure how I'd feel if I went into a bank in our town and they were behind glass....but then we live in a small town. I remember this fall when we were in LA, we went to a Jack-in-the-Box and there was bullet proof glass at the counter....when the lady asked if it was "for here" or "to go" Shane started to say "for here" until he seen the look on my face...I'm such a country mouse....I could live on the outskirts somewhere but not in the concrete jungle.
Glad to see your enjoying things so far and antisipating what God has in store...I love your courage!
That would definitely be an adjustment. My brother grew up in Seattle, lived in NY for a few years came back to Seattle and decided the East Coast is in fact for him....he LOVES everything about it!!! He lives in Philly now.
Happy Mother's Day my friend. HOpe you had a wonderful day!!!
I can only imagine what an adjustment this is. I grew up in NJ and at 25 left to go to place like OK, Germany, WA, and Hawaii. Boy is it different in these places. I know you will get used to it once again, but I am praying you do sooner than later.
PS I agree with Damselfly, write another book, that would be awesome!!!
PSS Happy Mother's Day
I've never been to NY, but hopefully will make it there some day.
I'm so glad my hubby likes to drive. I think Toronto traffic is bad enough...I can't even imagine what NY must be like.
Hope adjusting goes well and that you soon fall into the groove of driving there with Roxy by your side!
Thinking of you girl!!
Hugs
And
Happy Mothers day to you!!!
I hope that you had a wonderful Mother's Day.
You have lived away for so long it seems logical that you would have to adjust.
I think your Roxy and my Lola should do lunch. :)
Have a good week Nadine!
Yo Nadine....never too late to wish you Happy Mother's Day and with your faith and resilient, you can anywhere ;)
I am trying to imagine how it would be for me to move back somewhere I lived 16 years ago...that would be Scotland. WOW, that would be cool! But I am sure a culture shock because I know the country would not be as I imagined it.
Good luck settling in!
I would think it would be a huge adjustment, too!...especially the traffic and driving styles!
Love the gerbera daisy! Gorgeous photo!
