I can’t believe we had to get a new driver’s license again. It was only seven months ago when we got our Texas license. I wrote about the craziness of that in the post, All I Wanted Was My Texas Driver’s License.
I went to the Department of Motor Vehicle to get the paper work for transferring a driver’s license and to register my car. I asked what proof they needed and got all of it over the weekend. This time because I had national car insurance they just transferred it to NY and gave me new proof of insurance. I didn’t have to get the car inspected until after the registration.
Tom and I went early but had to wait on a line. We got new pictures taken for our licenses, registered the car, signed up for voter registration all in one convenient location. All in all I can’t complain because from start to finish it only took an hour and a half. When I lived in Brooklyn, I went to the Brooklyn DMV and I stood on line for over three hours before I reached the front. By the time I left four and half hours of my life was gone never to be seen again.
Moving from one state to another is a hassle. Once you get things like change of address, gas hook-up, cable, driver’s license, etc. taken care of, you can then proceed forward without feeling like you have something hanging over your head.
We moved here a month ago and are now officially New Yorkers again. It’s been very exciting so far and I can’t wait for what lies ahead.

Congratulations on the "official" status :) I think you've always been a New Yorker at heart though. I could move to New York and ALWAYS be a Bama girl (you heard the accent, there's no denying it LOL).
Glad that you and Tom are doing well. Have a great week Nadine.
Glad to hear you are not "official". Yes, moving involves so many more things than we think are obvious at first.
Susan
I haven't moved for so many years - I think I want to leave it that way!
But I'm glad you're getting settled in. I know you're going to love being New Yorkers again.
is that all it takes to be a new yorker? in these here parts (as you well know) it takes a texas driver's license, a willie nelson cd and a cowboy hat.
How nice that it is all settled and done!
*shudders* the American DMV is totally crazy!
I totally feel your pain! I STILL don't have one of our cars registered because we lost the title in the move!
Ugh......
Glad you're all "New York'ed" up again!
I'm quite puzzled as to the different state laws applied even to the Americans Nadine :)
When we went over to Alabama, my hubby applied for a international licence here but need to take a driving test once he reached there :D
Something new for us so I can imagine the number of times you do that each time you move from one state to another.
So glad the registration process went smoothly. That's the one thing that scares me about moving...getting another license from another state. What a hassle! Glad your DMV visit was hassle free!
Once you get all the important things out of the way, you can relax and enjoy your new (old?) hometown! There's no place like New York. I'm glad you feel at home there!
officially a New Yorker now;)
I have nothing to complain about next time I stand in line for 15-20 minutes at our DMV. Four hours...that's crazy.
....and all of the sudden....the traffic on road 68 looks like nothing! Hope all is going well. Lucky and I got back from SC on Sunday. Had a great time visiting the kids and grandsons. Say hi to Tom for me!!!
We have found out that moving just a few miles down the road can be a hassle, too! :-)
So can you still smile for your DL in NY? Here in Virginia they have made new regulations, and now you can't smile when you get your photo taken.
Congrats on being offical!! We have to do the same thing in Montana once we're settled there!
Sounds like life has been full of God's blessings and lots of activity!
Stay blessed guys!
I just don't understand the States and why they would have them STILL in the first place! Why not just have provinces like Canada, it makes things much less complicated.
We have to go in soon to get our "Enhanced DL" soon while it's free. Basically like DL will be like a reg. DL and passport in one only to be used throughout North America. I can't wait.
This means we may just be taking a few trips into the States.
You know, the Bellingham border, is only a 5 min drive away from me right?
I know I THINK it so strange that I could walk to an American farm in Canada, that's 5 mins away, take one step from the Canadian road onto the grass (of the American farm) and step into the States. Crazy hey? I think so. :)
Oh my goodness. I guess it's official now!
I think NY and NJ have some of the longest waiting lines at the DMV. Maybe it's because there are so many people. Glad to see you got your license. I am not looking forward to this process the next time I move.
