Fans

There's a new excitement for me regarding sports now that I’m back in NY. I love the Giants and the Mets. Granted they didn’t do very well this past season, but here’s what I’ve noticed. When you’re a fan of a team, you’re a fan whether they are winning or losing. When they are losing you’re not happy, but still a fan regardless.

Living in NY you have to pick a team. Each sport has two professional teams and you have to pick one. I’ve not come across anyone who says they’re a fan of New York and they root for both the Yankees and the Mets. Met fans love the Mets and hate the Yankees – why? I don’t even know. It’s like most New Yorkers don’t like New Jersey (sorry Jersey).

Now that I’m older and the Giants are out of the playoffs, I can root for the Jets to win. I’m not passionate about the Jets, but for the sake of my brother-in-laws – I’ll not root against them.

Fans are fanatical. They are passionate. They are emotional. They are loyal. Did you ever notice how some dress up for the games? They paint their faces; they wear wigs and the uniforms of their teams. They scream, yell and carry on. They cheer when the game is going their way and yell when someone fumbles. This is very acceptable way to behave in today’s society. In fact it’s encouraged.

It didn’t matter where we lived in the United States; we were still Giants and Mets fans. We didn’t always get to see all the games and hear as much details as we do being back in New York, but fans we remained.

What evokes that type of passion in you? What causes you to be emotional? What are you loyal to? What difference does it make in your life and in the lives of others around you? What activity or place do you go to that stirs life within you?

Express your passion. Express your creativity. Express what God has placed in your heart and in your being to do. Go where there is life.

I am finding little time for my passions at the moment. Yet my kids are part of my passion for sure :)

Good thoughts. Right now I'm too tired to be too passionate about anything! Wish I could.

"Go where there is life"
That last sentence always reminds me of you and Tom. I think that phrase "Go where the life is" will always stay with me. Small but deeply relevant! I think I've passed that little tidbit on to many people. So. . .even when you're not here, you're still touching people through the seeds you've planted :)

Living in Alabama, I understand the passion about sports. We choose the University of Alabama (Roll Tide) or Auburn University. And since our state has NO professional sports teams, ALL of our fan passion goes toward college football.

We decided this year BEFORE the pro football season, to root for the New Orleans Saints. So this is the first year that we have really been interested in the Super Bowl.

Sports are great. It really is a great entertainment!

Have a wonderful weekend Nadine.

I love this post. My Cowboys are out of play offs now too. I've often said it's a shame we can't be as passionate and fanatical about our Jesus as we are our sports. Blessings friend.

When I lived in Florida, sports were a big deal to most of the people. They went to the high school games, and actually PAID to be there. It was easy to get caught up in the excitement and cheering for the team. At one of the games, the Lord showed me how easy it was to move from that place into cheering(yelling, crying out, woohooing) for Him. We cheer for teams we are passionate about, why not for Him? It was very freeing for me. That was 21 years ago. I had not thought about this for a long time. Thanks for stirring my memories. "Go where there is life" Thanks for bring that to us.

Hi Nadine!
Just thought I'd pop over to say hi and see what you'd been up to lately. I've been so behind with my blogging and everything else (maybe I'll get caught up by Easter?)
Lots of Love and Hugs, Bebe :)

I'm a huge Cowboys fan and love the Yankees. I grew up in NJ in a house full of Giants fans, so how this happened I do not know.

Hello Nadine,

I just got back on my computer after getting a new one and buying all new modem equipment and etc. etc.
Just wanted to let you know I recognized you on my last post and am hoping to get an updated one going soon.
I am enjoying your little short story projects you post on facebook. It's fun and good practice. Thanks.

Sorry but we were voting for the other team but I understand your loyalty to the giants.
