Sweet Home Alabama!

Tom and I love our trip to Birmingham, Alabama. He is doing well considering he had his last chemo treatment this past Monday. Thank you all for your prayers.

We stopped at Cracker Barrel to have lunch on our way to Birmingham. I love Cracker Barrel. They have this peg game on the tables that I always have to play when we go. It starts off like this:
You have to jump over the pegs until you have only one standing. Two is good, three not so much and four or more left is very bad. This was mine after I tried:

This is what we ended up with after we cooperated together. Hmmmm . . . lesson here is that Tom and I are better when we work together.
We are staying with dear friends, Michael & Elisa. They welcomed us with open arms and even provided the basket below filled with goodies for our room. Their church is teaching a class on dream interpretation and Tom is having fun helping out.
The bonus for me on this trip was I got to meet Jennifer from Dust Bunny Hostage. She was visiting Birmingham and took time away from her family (on her birthday – Happy Birthday Jen) to meet with me at the Irondale Café (better known as the Whistle Stop Café from Fried Green Tomatoes).Of course I had to try the fried green tomatoes. It was yummy.
I was thrilled to meet Jennifer. She was even prettier than her picture. She was as sweet and kind as she portrays herself on her blog. We had a delightful time talking and visiting. It was the first Tom got to meet one of my blog friends. He was happy to be able to greet her also.
I love reading Jen’s blog. She is very humorous when she writes. She blogs about so many different things and has a flare for writing. Do yourself a favor and visit Jen. You won’t be disappointed.

Meeting Karen & Thank You

I want to tell you about a lovely woman I met yesterday named Karen. We got connected through Diane who I met back in November. Diane had been a long time blog friend.

Karen and I met at an Argentina Bakery in Irving. We talked over empanadas and coffee. Karen works with many Christian speakers and authors. She has two blogs you can check out here and here. I really enjoyed her company. We got to share life and talked for over four hours. This was the second time I met someone from blogland and I was not disappointed.

I would like to thank two lovely blog friends for three awards. The first two came from Karen W. from Such a Time as Now. Karen was a missionary and home schools her children. She blogs about life and faith. She’s a lovely woman. Pay her a visit when you get a chance. She gave these two awards.


The next one is from Bebe. She has a lovely blog and she also has an antique business that she runs on line. Do stop by and pay her a visit. She is delightful and has elegant taste. Her posts are always interesting and fun with lots of pictures.

I always have a hard time with this part because over the years I’ve come to know so many bloggers and I love them all for various reasons. Meeting Diane IRL

I’ve read many a blog where blog friends got to meet. I would think to myself, “How cool is that?” The funny thing that happens when you read blogs is that you start to get know someone. You comment on their blogs and have dialogue. You start to care about what’s going on their lives and their family. Blog friends are special, but what happens when you meet one in real life (IRL)?

I had the extreme pleasure of meeting one yesterday, Diane from Partners in Prayer for our Prodigals. It’s been about two years since we first “met” in cyberspace. It was (as Diane put it) meeting an “old” friend for the first time. We met at the Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas. It is a beautiful resort hotel.

We talked and shared life. It was great and felt so natural. She was as lovely a person as she appeared to be on her blog. Her heart for her family, God and His people was very apparent in our conversation. She started a new business venture and I think it’s wonderful that she’ll able to pursue her dreams. She’s a very intelligent lady that speaks with grace and humility.

I’m so glad we met for lunch. If you ever get a chance to meet a blog friend in person, do it. I hope that she is the first of many that I get to meet.
